Nanoparticles in the Classroom

Graduate Fellow Kristina Pohaku Mitchell & Teacher Partner Colleen Robinson

Using nanotechnology for therapeutics

Details

Kristina Mitchell and chemistry teacher Colleen Robinson at Helix Charter High School will introduce students to nanoscience and nanotechnology. They plan to incorporate the concept of "nano" in multiple units throughout the year. Two main activities are planned for the students. The first activity will focus on nanoparticle degradation rates as a function of temperature. This activity will be used not only to help explain kinetics but also to help the students understand how science is performed on objects that are too small to see by eye. The second activity will be a case study where the students investigate how nanotechnology is being developed for use in therapeutic applications.
